Scott Aaron Orgill, 40, Payson, UT, returned to His Heavenly Father on Friday, February 17, 2023, while being held by those he loved. Born to Von Dean and Sherri Ketchum Orgill on March 6, 1982, Scott was the fourth of seven children and the eldest son. He spent his early years in Warrenton, Virginia, which sprouted his love of nature and the woods, then moved to Orem, Utah, and grew a lasting love of the mountains and great outdoors.
As a child, with 6 siblings, including 3 rambunctious younger brothers, Scott never wanted for playmates. Yet, he managed to regularly sneak away from the family by wearing camouflage "ghillie" suits, and then prided himself by hiding in plain sight for hours, while his brothers and sisters searched for him.
It was no surprise that Scott was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Orem High School early to fulfill his dream of serving in the military. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for Operation Enduring Freedom (2003), and in the USMC Reserves as an Expert Rifleman and Scout Team Leader. He was honorably discharged in 2007, with the rank of Sergeant.
In 2005, Scott married Melissa Orchard (Watson), in Laie, Hawaii. Though they later divorced, their union brought into the world the light of Scott's life, his daughter, Jessica Autumn Orgill, age 16. Scott glowed whenever Jessie was around, and he looked forward to every minute together, every call, every game, every meal, and every message. Jessie helped take care of her dad when he got sick, and he was blessed by her compassion and care. Scott's love for Jessie continues on, for they are an eternal daddy-daughter duo, one part mortal, one part angel.
The last years of his life, Scott developed a special friendship with his "person" and confidant, Alicia Mower. Scott was a father figure to Thomas, Connor, Riley, and Makayla, and Scott and Jessie loved their Mower family.
With an engineering mind, Scott worked and hobbied with all things technology, building computers, coding, software development and IT automation.
Scott was equal parts engineer, philosopher, and artist. He was a master story crafter who could create worlds and act out stories on the fly, voices and all. He could draw, paint, and write perfect prose, even if it took him an hour to craft the perfect sentence. He painted a vision that drew everyone in to feel like a part of the story. He was like a dwarven lord or a Viking king. He did everything with a purpose. Scott always made efforts to include those who were not comfortable or confident; he'd bring out their confidence and grow them into part of the group. He was a champion of the underdog with a gravity that pulled others in. There was nothing he cared about that he didn't dive all in, which means he had a masterful knowledge of almost anything he spoke on. But at his heart, Scott was a teddy bear, with hugs to prove it.
Scott's adventurous ways were evidenced from his activities to his taste buds. He loved Indian and Thai food hot enough to make most people sweat or cry, and made sure everyone knew that the tastiest soup, pho, was pronounced "Fuh", not "Fo". If ever you called because you couldn't find Scott, he'd send a picture of himself in the mountains, hiking or camping, whether sun, rain, or snow. He lived the quote from Henry David Thoreaus' Walden, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads”.
Scott grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and faithfully served a full-time mission to the Philippines. He was a pensive, deep thinker, and full-time life philosopher, who always sought for peace and understanding.
Scott is survived by his his daughter, Jessica Autumn Orgill of Rancho Cucamonga, California, parents, Von Dean and Sherri Ketchum Orgill of Orem, Utah, his siblings, Kristi (Jamin) Pace of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Jodi (Tolan) Brown of Riverdale, Utah, Tami (David) Baker of Orem, Utah, Brandon (Michele) Orgill of Springville, Utah, Michael (Eryn) Orgill of Orem, Utah, and Brett (Lindsey) Orgill of Bend, Oregon. He also has many adoring nephews and nieces who will miss their Uncle Scotty. Scott is also survived by dear friend, Alicia Mower of Payson, Utah.
