Zaida Poppleton Maughan Wallace, 99, Orem, Utah, passed away and returned to loved ones August 27, 2014. She was born May 7, 1915 in Wellsville, Utah, to Guy Heber Hill Maughan and Emma Riggs Poppleton Maughan. She graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University. She married Melbourne D. Wallace September 15, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. Zaida and Mel lived in the Orem area raising their six children before moving to Birmingham, Alabama where they stayed for 37 years. She taught elementary school for 20 years. Zaida loved her family; she had a great sense of humor and a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was an avid gardener, a "green thumb" and especially enjoyed raising beautiful flowers. Zaida made treasured quilts and blankets that she gave to her many grandchildren. Zaida loved genealogy and serving others. She was an active member of the LDS church serving in various callings including Mission Relief Society president and temple worker in the Washington D.C. and Atlanta temples. Zaida and Mel returned to Orem and spent the last years of their lives surrounded by family and friends. Zaida is survived by her children: Marilyn (Lew) Kofford, Dale (Carol) Wallace, Steven (Joan) Wallace, Mary Ann (Tom) Bullock, and Michael Wallace. She has 35 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Melbourne D. Wallace, her daughter, Kathryn Wallace Rawlings, grandsons, Scott and Jay Rawlings, Nathan Kofford, and Bryan Beers. As a family we are grateful for the kind and loving care she received at the Ashford Memory Care Center. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to the LDS Missionary Fund in her memory. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeridge 3rd Ward, 950 South 50 East, Orem, Utah.
