William Bill

July 24, 1935 — March 22, 2015

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather returned to his Heavenly Father on March 22, 2015 at the age of 79. He was born on July 24, 1935 in Moontownship, PA to Clifford A. Campbell and Mabel Jane Combs. Bill served over 20 years in the California Legislature as an Assemblyman and a Senator. As Senator, he served as Chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee, Minority Leader of the Senate, and leader in emergency preparedness, which led to the State Office of Emergency Services named "Senator Bill Campbell Bldg." During the 1984 Olympics, he was elected President of the Los Angeles Coliseum. Bill was a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division and George H.W. Bush gave him the honor to serve on the American Battle Monuments Commission. He married Margene Taylor in the Los Angeles Temple and together they have three daughters, Kim Foster (deceased), Michelle Warnick (Greg), and Stephanie Jones (Alan), 14 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Kip Campbell (Sylvia), and a sister, Dr. Shirley J. Campbell. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving as a Gospel Teacher for over 20 years. His love of the Gospel and our Country was an inspiration to all who knew him, especially to his family. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 28th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1810 W Springwater Park Drive, Orem, UT, 84058. A viewing will take place from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on the same day. Services under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home: 495 S State Street, Orem, UT, 84058.
