Walter Cryer, former BYU Swim Coach and Professor Emeritus, age 95, passed away June 20, 2024 from cancer. He was born April 10, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents are Walter Cryer, Sr. and Eva Wallin Cryer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Anne Wagner, his brothers Robert and Richard, and sister, Patty. He had 8 children; Catherine Peterson (Thomas), Thomas Hugh, Janette Johnson (Michael) David John, Lucretia Wright (Tadd), Elizabeth Bangerter (Layne), Bryan Wayne (Michelle), and Emily Ann Rowberry (Greg). He is survived by his wife, Mary Janis Larson, his sister, Sandra Johnson, and his children. He walked the Christian path throughout his life.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Cherry Hill 5th Ward Chapel, 135 East 2000 South, Orem, Utah. Viewings for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Wheeler-Sundberg Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1 before the services at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coach Walter Cryer Athletic Scholarship Fund via Brigham Young University Philanthropies.
