Vivian Irene Jones Buckner, 86, was born in Ogden, Utah, on September 17, 1930. She was the sixth of eight children born to Barton E. and Margaret Marie Hancock Jones. She passed away on May 10, 2017 in Murray, Utah.
Vivian graduated from Ogden High and attended Brigham Young University. Her parents moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, soon after her graduation from high school. She joined them there while working to earn money for school. She met her husband, Gene, at a church activity in Cheyenne where he was stationed with the Air Force. They were married on April 25, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple and spent the first two years of marriage in Honolulu, Hawaii. They then relocated to Provo, Utah, where they lived for most of their 61 years of marriage.
Vivian’s vocation was being a mother. She was resourceful, thoughtful, and dedicated in raising her children. Her children knew that she loved them more than anything else. She served conscientiously in primary and relief society callings in the LDS Church. Vivian loved being a grandmother.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, all but one of her siblings, and her daughter Pat Diane Buckner. She is survived by her husband Eugene Buckner of Provo and her children Cari Buckner of St. George, Utah; Kathy (Robert) Rowe of Orem, Utah; Ann (John) Harrison of Rose, Oklahoma; and Chris (Lisa) Buckner of Orem, Utah. She was grandmother to seventeen and great-grandmother to thirteen. She is also survived by her sister Kay (Bill) Arnold of Ogden, Utah.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel located at 1600 North 1880 West, Provo, Utah. Viewings will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah, and Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. just prior to the funeral services at the church. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
