Virginia Johnson

Virginia Maria Castillo Johnson, 51, of Orem, Utah, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was born April 1, 1967, in Barranquilla, Colombia, South America, to Ricardo Rafael Castillo Cepeda and Gloria Sara Rodriguez Castillo. She married Lonnie Keith Johnson on April 12, 1986, in the Provo LDS Temple.

Virginia lived and loved life to the fullest. In her youth, Virginia won the “Who is Who in America” while attending American Senior High School in Miami, Florida. She received a personal signed letter from President Ronald Reagan for winning first prize in arts in the state of Florida. She enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, crafts, and cooking. Virginia found joy in God’s creations, including hiking, going camping, and working as a scout leader. Virginia learned to do household repairs and would fix many things around the house. She was a faithful servant of the Lord, ministering to everyone she came in contact with. A missionary at heart in all things, Virginia showed her love for God through her service to others. She loved the Gospel and always shared it at every opportunity. Through her example and testimony, she touched hundreds of lives and brought many to the knowledge of Christ’s Gospel. She served in many areas for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her last calling was serving as a ward missionary. Virginia especially treasured the time spent making memories with her children and family. As her posterity grew, she was rarely found without a grandchild in her arms. She was the first person her children asked for when they called home or came to visit. Virginia passed on her abilities and love of the arts to her children such as sketching, knitting, crocheting, painting, and a plethora of craft projects. She enjoyed countless family vacations throughout her life, perhaps her favorite of which was visiting Hawaii a few years ago where she was able to spend time with her sweetheart and rekindle the eternal love that has always been present in their life together. Her truest happiness will always be her family. They were her pride and joy. She considered their love of God and His Gospel her greatest achievement. Virginia often quoted 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Her family was her life. She loved her Heavenly Father and there has never been a doubt in her husband and children's eyes of that love. “If there was anyone who walked side by side with the Savior Jesus Christ, it was Mom. She was our biggest supporter and our greatest example.”

Virginia is survived by her husband Lonnie and their six children: Ricky (Kendra) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; Brittney (Sio) Gali of Lindon, Utah; Michael Johnson of Orem, Utah; Gini Johnson of Orem, Utah; Jacob Johnson of Orem, Utah; Caleb Johnson of Orem, Utah; And seven grandchildren: Jenna and Tate Johnson (Richard & Kendra); Alameda, Tauati, Caren, Alma, and Temperance Gali (Brittney & Sio).

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 14, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Suncrest 9th LDS Ward Chapel located at 140 North 400 West Orem, Utah. Viewings for friends and family will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, and on Friday just prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church listed above. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery immediately after the services.
