Shirley Rae Cain, born to Ray and Myrtle Cain in Spokane, Washington, on November 23, 1934, passed away peacefully at her Orem home on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Shirley married James David Warren in Spokane, Washington, where they started a family together. Moving to Riverside, California, they raised eight children: Jeff, Nikki, Greg, Brad, Laurie, Coleman, Clay, and Derek. Then, in 1968, the family relocated to Reno, Nevada.
A woman of faith, Shirley embraced the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While initially less active, Shirley's commitment to her faith blossomed over the years. She found immense joy in serving others and dedicated herself to her family, church community, and just about anyone who would cross her path.
Shirley was a happy person, knew how to laugh at herself, was not prone to the dramatic, and had a gift for listening to others that made them feel important because, to her, they were.
In 1982, Shirley and her children settled in Provo, Utah, where she pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Her love for learning–she is known for taking copious notes–and service to others was surpassed only by her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Shirley's life was marked by service and sacrifice. Beginning in November 1999, she embarked on three consecutive full-time LDS missions to Russia, England, and Canada, spreading love, faith, and compassion wherever she went. Her dedication to temple work, family history, and her unwavering testimony of the gospel touched the lives of countless individuals.
Shirley is survived by her ex-husband, Jim Warren, seven of her eight children, 37 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, generosity, and faith.
