Dr. Shauna Lee Eddy-Sanders, 48, passed away unexpectedly in her home the morning of November 2, 2014, after a 7-year struggle with autoimmune disease. Shauna was born July 28, 1966, in Denver Colorado, to Richard Eddy and Sallie Atkinson Eddy. She was an excellent student, and played both piano and violin. In 2001, she married Marvin Sanders and gave birth to Ari Lorenzo Sanders in 2002 and Gabriel Miles Sanders in 2007. She was also the stepmother of Brandi, Jeanna, and Dionna Sanders. She was the grandmother of three. Her husband and children were the light of her life, and though her disease limited her mobility, it only enhanced her striving to be the best wife and mother. She earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree at Brigham Young University, and Doctor of Philosophy degree in English from the University of Southern California. She was one of some two dozen cousins who have earned Masters or Doctorate degrees. She was on the faculty of Southern Utah University, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah. Her teaching career was cut short by the autoimmune disease. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and especially enjoyed her service as an ordinance worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. She was active in the equestrian vaulting community and had just returned from regional competition in Nevada where both Ari and Gabriel placed high in the scoring. She is survived by her husband, her parents, sisters Sara (Todd) Porter and Suzanne Smith, and brother Joseph Eddy, five children, three grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Timpanogos 1st Ward, 1000 North Main, Orem, Utah. Friends may call on Thursday, November 6, from 6:30 to 8:00pm and on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.SundbergOlpinMortuary.com .
