Segundo Cesar Díaz Cubas - lovingly known to his children and grandchildren as Papito - of Orem, Utah, passed away surrounded by loved ones at the age of 91, on March 8, 2019. He was born on March 7, 1928 in Querocoto, Cajamarca, Peru, to Edelmira Cubas Fernandez and Raul Díaz Gonzalez. He married his loving wife, Luisa Murga on January 22, 1955. Later they were sealed together in the Bern Switzerland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on May 12, 1982. They spent 64 wonderful years together.
After finishing school in Cajamarca, Cesar moved to Lima to pursue his dreams and further his education at La Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos where he received a degree in economics. A few years later, after beginning his family, he received a second degree in accounting from the University of San Martin de Porras. Cesar and Luisa later sacrificed their life in Peru to move to Utah for safety reasons and for better opportunities for their children. Cesar had a passion for soccer, and played professionally in Peru for many years. He continued to play soccer for most of his life, sharing his passion for the sport with his grandchildren, coaching them on his techniques, teaching them that, “El deporte es una disciplina”, or the importance of discipline and always sharing with his family and others his favorite phrase, "Lo valiente no quita lo cortez," reminding them that valiance doesn't take your kindness and respect for others away. He had many other hobbies as well, including; dancing, reading, and enjoying great music.
He was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He loved everyone dearly. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as a home teacher, Sunday school president, branch president, bishop, and in a stake presidency.
