On Tuesday, November 20th, 2018, Rulon Don Winter, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 (or as he would say, 61 with 30 years of experience;) at his home in Orem.
Born in Pocatello, ID on December 28th, 1926, Don was the eldest of 4 children born to Rulon Wesley Winter and Minnie Schif Schick. He lived a life in service to others. He served his country in both the Army, and Navy. He was a dedicated family man, and dearly loved his wife, Melba, and three children, Margie, Robert, and Larry. He & Melba spent their later years in Fresno, California where he worked as an accountant and enjoyed golf, service in the church, travel, and outings with friends and family. When Melba passed away, he was able to once again find love and happiness with Betty Marriott of Orem and treasured every moment they spent together. It was not uncommon to stumble upon the two of them stealing kisses in the kitchen. Betty delighted him, and he never failed to express that to her.
Don was a man devoted to friends and family, and his perpetual good humor and cheery disposition will be greatly missed by his family. He took his role as the family patriarch very seriously and would frequently bear his testimony of Jesus Christ to his 12 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to teach important life lessons, to share his gospel perspective, or to use any resource at his disposal to serve and bless his family, friends, or neighbors. He was a light and joy to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Winter, and his sons, Robert (Peoria, AZ) and Larry Winter (Lehi.) He is also survived by his sister, Jeannine Kitchen (Cedar City.)
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel, 90 N. 600 W., Orem, Utah. A Viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment, Orem City Cemetery. Funeral Home: Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.
