Ron was born January 28, 1937 in Brooklyn NY to Viola & William Herbert. His father passed away when Ron was in Elementary School and was raised by his mother along with two brothers. Growing up in a Catholic home, he attended Catholic schools until high school. He was an altar boy and seriously considered becoming a Priest. It is while he was in High School he began studying the Bible and had so many questions.
One day, he came home from school and presented his mom with papers to sign. He wanted to join the Navy for 20 years. He was only 17 and needed his mother’s permission. The Navy eventually led him to Long Beach, CA where he met Arleen. After a very short courtship they married.
During the early years, they always felt God’s hand on their shoulders leading them and guiding them even though they didn’t realize what or who it was at the time. They moved to Maryland for 3 years where they became the parents of their son, Neil. They were transferred back to Long Beach and transferred again to Tacoma, WA where they became the parents of their daughter JoAnn.
After joining a neighborhood church. It was here that so many of Ron’s questions were answered and he was baptized. He in turn baptized Arleen. As they started attending church on a regular basis and hosting Bible studies in their home their faith grew.
When his father-in-law became ill he moved in with them. That was the start of a life of being caregivers for the family. In 1999 Ron suffered his first of 3 heart attacks and first triple bypass surgery. Heart disease remained a burden for him the rest of his life. He also had COPD, Parkinson’s Disease, Liver and Kidney failure. He was a strong man and fought to go on for his family.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and brothers William and Arthur. Ron leaves behind his wife Arleen of 54+ years, Son Neil, Daughter JoAnn, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.
Ron only had two jobs in his entire life. 20 years in the Navy and 30 years at Boeing. He loved his God, his family and his country. He felt honored to be able to help take care of family until their passing. His deepest desire was to live long enough to see his children walking with the Lord.
