Roberta Allred

July 1, 1916 — June 19, 2014

Roberta Allen Allred, 97, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of June 19th 2014 with family close by. She was born the 23 of July 1916 the 5th daughter and the 8th child of Elijah Allen and Emma Pearl Nielson. She grew up in Mesa Arizona in a loving family that worked, played and worshiped together. She met her lifetime sweetheart, Joseph Newel Allred, at Arizona State University. After they had both graduated they were married for eternity on October 14th 1938 in the Mesa Arizona LDS temple. Together they had 7 children and raised a nephew as their own. Her husband's occupation took them from one side of the country to the other providing an opportunity for her to do extensive family history research, which she dedicated much of her life to. After her husband's retirement they served as temple workers in the Washington DC temple then as missionaries for the LDS church in Torreon Mexico. After their mission they settled on a little farm in Payson Utah, where she functioned as scribe and typist for dad during the time he served as stake patriarch. This was a happy time as they farmed, rode horses and entertained grandkids.

She served as Relief Society president multiple times, serving as a counselor in her 80's. She also served in Primary, cub scouts and other auxiliaries of the LDS church. Her faith, dedication and service served as an example to her children and grandchildren all of her life. She was gentle and kind and treated all with respect and dignity demonstrating her greatness by how she treated others. She excelled in organization and the handling of family finances being a great blessing to her family in the "lean" years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers Elijah Cecil, Taft Lavere, Frihoff Nielson and Gerald Mecham and her sisters Pearl Jorgensen, Thora Harless, Vilate Cardon and Pricilla Layton. She is survived by her sister Jean Ipson, her children Joseph Nelson (Collen), Robert Graham (Karen), Diana Leytham (Malcolm), John Allen (Linda), Marlin Porter, George Leslie (Collett), Emmalou Penrod (David) and James Kenneth (Karen), many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
