Robert Olsen

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Robert Merwin Olsen, aged 88 of Springville, on November 11, 2017. Please join us for a viewing at 9:30 to 10:30 on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 State Street, Orem, Utah. The viewing is prior to the services at the same location starting at 11:00 am.

Robert was born to Robert and Caroline Olsen, the oldest of six children in Lake View, Utah. He grew up on a farm and worked hard on the farm for many years, which taught him the rewards of working hard throughout his life. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947, and then married his high school sweetheart Erma, on April 22, 1948, in the Manti Temple. Robert worked as a home milk delivery man and as a Wonder Bread delivery salesman. Robert also earned his insurance license and sold life insurance for many years at his own agency. He enjoyed making model airplanes, railroads, and ships.  He also built several camping trailers and motorhomes, so he could pursue his interest in camping and fishing.  In addition, he oversaw the building of his Orem home of 57 years, completing the carpentry work on the inside. Last year, he moved to an assisted living facility in Springville due to ongoing health issues.

Robert was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in many church callings including ward clerk and a stake 70’s president. Robert enjoyed visiting with his four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren (plus spouses), and 30 great-grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife Erma and their children, Eileen (Logan), Dale (Jean), Barbara (David) and Mark (Sandy). He is also survived by one sister, Beth (Theo) Dunham. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Caroline and his siblings, Verna, Deon, Leila and Jay.

Funeral Services are at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary Chapel (495 State Street, Orem) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017. A viewing for friends and family will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on November 11th at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.

Interment is at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 1000 North 400 East, Orem. Services are under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary of Orem, Utah.
