Robert Kirkman

Bob Kirkman, passed away on August 06, 2014 at his home in Orem, Utah surrounded by loved ones. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather-we will miss him. He was born on September 25, 1928 in American Fork, Utah to Marvin D and Christie A Kirkman. He married Colleen McKelvey Cross June 19, 1953 and La Rae Riding Bunting December 17, 2001 (both proceeded him in death). He was raised in a family of 7 brothers and sisters: Dee, Glen, Fae (Blood) Ranae (Bilbo), Elvin (Buzz), Alan and Marva. Bob grew up in the American Fork and Pleasant Grove areas. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. While at PG High he played Football, softball and was a member of the track team for the Vikings. He worked for U.S. Steel Geneva Works most of his working life until his retirement in 1980. During his career at Geneva he was drafted to the United States Army and served his country honorably seeing action in the Korean War. After his military obligation was fulfilled he returned to work at Geneva Steel. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one daughter; Sharon Cross, brothers: Dee, Glen, Buzz, Alan and his sister Fae. He is Survived by his children; Robert Michael Kirkman, Stephen (Marsha) Cross, Paulette (Rulon) Gordon, Paul (Terry) Cross. He has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Brighton Hospice for their support and compassionate care. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11:00am at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home 495 South State Street in Orem. A visitation will be held on Tuesday prior to the services at the funeral home from 9:00-10:45am. Interment will take place at American Fork City Cemetery, Military Rites provided by American Legion Post #72.
