Rhea Simmons

Rhea Garside Simmons, 100, died peacefully on Sunday January 11, 2015. She was the first of three children born to Willard and Sarah Smith Garside. She was born in Sandy Utah and Spent most of her childhood in Magna, Utah. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1936 and after graduation she became a school teacher in Idaho. Rhea met her husband Carl G Simmons when they were both going to Cypress High School in Magna, Utah. Rhea loved to dance and go to High School Football and Basketball games to watch Carl who was an all state athlete. After Carl Graduated from Utah State they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on July 2nd 1937. They moved to San Diego in 1941 when Carl was in the Army and together they raised three children. Rhea was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker and was the center of a happy home, a light and inspiration for good and a wise teacher. Plus she was a great cook. She was faithful in serving in her church callings. Rhea was a ward organist for over 15 years and served on the San Diego Stake Primary Presidency Board for many years. After moving to Orem, Utah she was very involved in the Church's Humanitarian Projects. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her daughters Kay and Carol, and her two brothers Heber and Paul. Rhea is survived by her son David, 14 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. Funeral services are being held at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street Orem, Utah on Saturday January 17 with viewing from12pm to 12:45 and funeral services starting at 1pm. Burial will be at Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego California.
