Revoe Petersen

Ila ReVoe Thompson Petersen, 89, of Orem, Utah, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. ReVoe was born on May 23, 1932, in Clarkston, Utah, to Glen Wendell Thompson and Lillie Pearlue Buttars. She was sealed for all time and eternity to Claudius Glen Petersen in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 26, 1950. ReVoe preceded Glen in death by two days, having been married 71-1/2 years.

Claudius Glen Petersen, 95, of Orem, Utah, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Glen was born on June 3, 1926, in Fielding, Utah, to Claudius Niels Petersen and Jane Elma Christensen. Glen fittingly passed away on Veteran’s Day, as he was proud of his service in the U.S. Army during World War II.

ReVoe was the eighth of nine children born to Wendell and Lillie Thompson: Lester (Carlie), Nessie, Wendell (Norma), Grant (Marjorie) (Bea), Lois (Ruel) Moss, Max (Barbara), Myron (Karma), Angeline. ReVoe is the last of her family to pass away, and she has one sister-in-law, Bea Thompson, living.

Glen was the second of seven children born to Claude and Elma Petersen: Claine (Irene), VaLoise (Clyde) Sorensen, Bernice (Lee) Allen, Arlene (Ferris) MacFarlane, Norman (Marguerite), and Marie (Milton) Bywater. Glen is survived by his sister Arlene, his sister Marie and her husband Milton, and by his sister-in-law Marguerite.

ReVoe was talented, intelligent, beautiful, and a bit of a spitfire. She could prepare a grand feast from their home garden, sew flawless clothing for her family, and keep a spotless home. An auto accident at age 15 took the life of her beloved father, and her health was a concern for the remainder of her life. Nevertheless, ReVoe challenged herself to improve, explore new hobbies and activities, and work each day to its fullest. She did not procrastinate nor leave any task undone, and she gave every assignment her best effort. She played softball during the War, and, when her children were young, she competed as a professional bowler, having bowled a perfect 300 twice on television. She served faithfully in many leadership callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoying her time as an ordinance worker in the Oakland Temple with Glen. She was a Real Estate Broker by profession and owned her own company, VIP Realty, in Sacramento, California, for nearly 30 years. After Glen retired, they managed properties in Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Davis, and Auburn, California. In 2005, Glen and ReVoe moved to Orem to be near their daughter, Angela.

Glen was a man with no guile—an honorable and gentle soul. He worked hard every day, doing his best to serve his God, his family, and his community. His parents taught him to value truth and right. He grew up laboring on farms in and around Fielding, Utah, and his concern was always for his dear mother, Elma, who was widowed at the age of 36 with seven young children. After graduating high school with honors in math and sports (and being named the athlete of the year for track and swimming), Glen was inducted into the Army and served as a sergeant in the infantry, specifically in the Pacific Theatre, the Philippines Campaign, and the Occupation and Reconstruction of Japan. After his release, he met ReVoe at a cousin’s wedding in Clarkston, Utah, and they danced the night away! Glen left to serve a full-time mission in the Northern States Mission, spending most of his time in Minnesota. When he returned, they were married by Glen’s mission president, William Killpack, then serving as President of the Idaho Falls Temple. Glen was employed by the U.S. Government as an Accountant in Sacramento; Camp Zama, Japan; Indianapolis; and Oakland. He retired as the Worldwide Dispersing and Finance and Accounting Officer for the U.S. Department of the Army.  Many of his responsibilities required him to travel to the Pentagon frequently to confer with officials, the Secretary of Defense, and politicians. Glen retired in 1984. At the age of 90, Glen had the privilege of traveling on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. (sponsored by the BYU College of Nursing) with his son Steve who served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and there finally receive his World War II service medal, courtesy of Senator Orrin Hatch’s office. Glen and ReVoe moved a great deal in their lives, and Glen found many opportunities for leadership service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully as ward clerk many times, in scouting, in the Sunday School, on the high council, and as Bishop of the Indianapolis 4th Ward. He was a faithful home teacher and temple worker. Glen was a man who believed in being on time, keeping your word, being true to your faith, always doing your best, and being kind to all. His smile melted your heart.

Glen and ReVoe are survived by four of their five children; their fourth son, Perry, preceded them in death in April 2021. Their children and spouses are Steve (Carolyn) of Kirkland, Washington; Roger (Andrea) of Elk Grove, California; Dave (Eileen) of Saratoga Springs, Utah; Perry’s widow Jean of Ammon, Idaho; and Angela (David) Cottrell of Orem, Utah.

Glen and ReVoe have 26 grandchildren: Carrie, Brian (Jamie), Stephanie, and Bruce (Beth). Daniel, Kristal (Brian), Michael (Cris), Rachel (James), Jacob, and Sara. Courtney (Dave), Stacy (Marc), David (Ashley), Logan (Chelsea), Whitney (Jeremy), Nicole, and Tiffany. Suzanne (Craig), Jeremy (Cami), James (Heather), and Jordan (Charme'). Tyler (Autumn), Jason (Erica), Kevin (Mary), Natalie (Wesley), and Eden.

They also have 49 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Easton, Mason, Maddox, Rachel, and Andrew. Keira, Kallissa, Brody, Cy, Michael, Leona, and Teagan. Andalyn, Ryan, Camden, Montana, Carson, Londyn, Crew, Cage, Remi, Olivia, Elliot, Graham, Zoe, and Harlow. Aiden, Ashlyne, Arianne, Alivia, Ammon, Constance, Declan, Terralise, Corbin, and a boy due in a few weeks. Adaline, Emily, Melody, Glen, Luke, Margaret, Alice, Keith, Neil, Lydia, Thomas, and Stephen.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. the Fielding, Utah, cemetery, 17215 North 4400 West Fielding, UT, with Military Honors from the American Legion, Post 76. A family luncheon will be given by Glen’s nieces at the Fielding Town Hall following the service.

The family expresses loving gratitude to the Director of Legacy Village of Provo, Jared Nye, and his wonderful staff (particularly Shawna, Analia, Sarah, Graham, Ricardo, Caleb, Chris, Clarissa, Saren, Christopher, and Julianna) where Glen and ReVoe have resided for the past 2-1/2 years. Gratitude is also expressed to Kali, Jenna, and Lexi of First Choice and to Lyndi of Encompass for their compassionate and angel-like hospice care of Glen and ReVoe.
