Renee Smith

Renee Clotilde Smith, 93, passed away on January 24, 2017, in Lindon, Utah. Renee was born in Auxerre, France on October 14, 1923, to Jules Argault and Jeanne Seguin. Renee emigrated to Argentina with her family in 1938, then to Uruguay in 1941. Renee emigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1947 where she worked at the United Nations. While in Montreal, Renee met Tennyson Smith who was serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Renee moved to Provo, Utah, in 1949 to attend Brigham Young University. After Tennyson’s mission, Renee and Tennyson were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 17, 1950. Renee and Tennyson moved to California in 1956 where they raised their family for 29 years, retiring to Orem, Utah, in 1984.

Renee was a strong, independent woman of tremendous faith and dedication. She loved genealogy work, and enjoyed boating and fishing with Tennyson. Renee earned a bachelor and master’s degree in French and Spanish, and was a high school teacher for 16 years in the Los Angeles School District. Renee served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Frankfurt Germany Temple, Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission) and served for many years as a worker in the Provo and Timpanogos Temples.

Renee is survived by her sister Genevieve Edouardette DeHoyos and her six children: Michel Tenny Smith married to Catheryn Mandia, of Lake Stevens, Washington; Pierre Argault Smith married to Carrie Rebecca Rollins, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Jacqueline Smith married to Max Sidney Wood, of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Maurice Edouard Smith married to Natalie Jean Kennedy, of Roswell, Georgia; Annette Smith married to Darrell Lynn Moss, of Lindon, Utah; and Nicole Yvette Smith married to L. Joseph Rivest II, of Orem, Utah. Renee and Tennyson have 35 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 545 South 800 East, Orem, Utah. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Internment will take place after the funeral service at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.  Condolences may be left for the family here on this site.
