P. "Magdalene" Hanson

Patricia "Magdalene" Murphy Young Hanson Warren, aged 86, passed away August 1, 2018.  Born April 16, 1932 in Bloemfontein, South Africa to parents Edward Murphy, and Susarah Rousseau.

Magdalene was 16 years old when she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and immigrated to Alberta, Canada. In 1952, she married Gail Young in the Alberta Temple. They raised a family in Provo, Utah and lived on Grandview Hill for many years. Magdalene and Gail had 5 children: Galen, Alan, James, Monika, and Jesse. Magdalene and Gail divorced in 1963.

Magdalene married Orieon Nils Hanson in 1970. She and Oreion had two children: Susarah and Jordan. Oreion had 4 children from his previous marriage; Kerry, Rene, Leslie and Brent. Oreion worked for BYU and passed away in 1994. Magdalene married Bruce W. Warren in 2000. Bruce was a religion instructor for Brigham Young University. He authored notable books and articles and was highly regarded for his work in Archeology. Bruce passed away in 2013.

Magdalene was a gifted artist and loved to write poetry. We will always remember her for being friendly and very chatty with everyone. She enjoyed spending time at Deseret Industries searching for obscure religious books. Magdalene loved the gospel. Among her friends and family we jokingly referred to her as “Saint Magdalene” .

Our family would like to thank the staff at Canyon Breeze and Spring Gardens for looking after her final needs. Our burden was made light by the care of kind and dear people.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem. Viewings will be held Friday, August 3, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 on Saturday prior to the services at the Mortuary.
