Peter Charles Hoag

Peter Charles Hoag, 87, of Provo, Utah, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024.

Pete, as he was known, was born on April 22, 1937, to Russell and Helene Hoag in Chicago, Illinois. After studying geology at Cal Tech for a couple of years, Pete joined the US Air Force as a pilot. 

Pete went on to spend 28 years in the USAF as a test pilot, fighter pilot and Defense Attaché. During that time, he completed a BSEE from Washington State University and a Master’s in Aeronautical and Astronomical Engineering from Stanford University. Upon his retirement, Pete went to work for McDonnell Douglas for about another 10 years.

In 1959, Pete met his future wife, Patricia McCrea Waller in Lakenheath, England – where Pat’s stepfather was also stationed. Pete and Pat married in 1960 and went on to have five children: Russ, Tom, Joe, Dan and Kate.

After Pat passed away, Pete married Alecia Ann Jones in 1994. In 1995 he retired from McDonnell Douglas and both he and Alecia devoted much of their time to working in first the St. Louis, MO then the Provo, UT temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When he was not working at the temple, Pete loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed researching family history and was generous in sharing his knowledge and family stories. He also had a great love for growing some terrific flower gardens – dandelions beware!

Pete was predeceased by his parents and three of his siblings. He is survived by Alecia, his brother Tim, his five children, his fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Wheeler-Sundberg Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, UT 84058.

Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery 610 South State Street, Provo, Utah.
