Patricia Lorraine Hyde

August 9, 1945 — February 27, 2024

Orem

Patricia Lorraine Hyde, 78, of Orem, completed her mortal mission and joined her “hero”, Paul, in their Heavenly Home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Born August 9, 1945, in Renton, Washington to Lawrence George Holmberg and Leola Mae Holmberg (Edwards), Patricia dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her family.

She met her eternal companion, Paul Nolan Hyde, in Duluth, Minnesota while he was serving in the United States Air Force. They were married for time and eternity on February 11, 1967, in the St. George Utah Temple. He preceded her in death on August 1, 2021.

She and Paul brought seven children into their family and taught them the gospel of Jesus Christ through their knowledge, love, and faithful examples. Ever an avid reader with an inquisitive mind, she sought learning, “even by study and also by faith.” Her efforts in higher education earned her an LPN as a young woman and, later in life, a Bachelor of Arts in Independent Studies from BYU.

Patricia served quietly and faithfully in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her love of edifying music and desire to serve in the Primary as a pianist inspired her to teach herself to play the piano. She also served in the Relief Society, Young Women, and Boy Scouts. She served with her husband as church service missionary coordinators from 2010 to 2012, and as a companion while Paul served in Branch Presidencies at the Provo Missionary Training Center from 2013 to 2017. She was also a temple worker multiple times throughout her life.

Patricia was passionate about genealogy, family history and temple work. She dedicated innumerable hours over many decades to researching her ancestry, particularly that of her French-Canadian heritage. She specialized in finding those she called “the lost babies” and joining them to their eternal families through the sealing powers in the temple. Through her efforts, countless individuals and families have received the blessings of the temple. She also researched, compiled, authored and printed biographies on some of her forebearers, including her father and great-grandfather.

She was a talented artist who brought joy and admiration to her family and friends through her ability to capture the beauty of God’s creations. Her husband, children and grandchildren have painted by her side and learned from her skill over the years. Her extensive gallery, along with her husband's, has become a treasure to her entire family.

Forever in awe of the order of the universe, she turned her gaze to the stars and shared her fascination with astronomy with her children and grandchildren. She taught them to appreciate the privilege of our planet and our ability as its inhabitants to find Heavenly Father’s hand in all His Works.

She actively looked for opportunities to share her “Plain and Precious” testimony with her family, imparting wisdom and inspiration to all who came in contact with her. She left an indelible mark on the souls of her family and friends.

Patricia is survived by her 7 children: Rebecca Gonzales (Victor), Jennifer Nakai (Andy), Christopher Hyde (Tammy), David Hyde (Deborah), Melissa Tyson (Jeff), Emily Thompson (Benjamin) and Dara Card (Jeremy), 34 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, and her sister Anna Klingler. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Robert Holmberg (Cheryl).

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel located at 135 East 2000 South in Orem, Utah at 11:00 am. Burial will be at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park in Bluffdale.
