Ovid Bennett

Ovid Glenn "Tug" Bennett, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2014, at his home in Orem, Utah. He was born on April 6, 1924, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Merle Knick and Jessie Glenn Bennett. He was the oldest of ten children. Tug was a happy and positive person who never met a stranger and saw the good in everyone. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints attending Orem 7th Ward. Tug graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1942 where he excelled in all sports, especially baseball. He joined the US Navy in 1942 serving in World War II as an Electricians Mate First Class on the USS Shelton, which was sunk after being torpedoed close to Morotai Island. Tug was instrumental in the rescue of many injured comrades and received several medals and awards for his remarkable service. After the war, he worked as an Electrician, Maintenance Superintendent and Building Inspector. In March of 1973, he married Bonnie Connor in Kingman, Arizona and they were happily married for forty-one years. In 1996 they moved to Orem, Utah. Tug is survived by his wife, Bonnie Bennett, his children, David Bennett of Illinois, Doug Bennett of Oregon, Lisa Pinkard (Sandy) of West Virginia, Belinda Jones (Lonnie) of Nevada, Mark Magee (Krishelle) of Utah, Lisa Muirbrook (Ladd) of Utah, Jill Larsen (Garrett) of Utah and twenty grandchildren ,nine great-grandchildren, four sisters, one brother and many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Funeral services will he held on Monday, August 4th , 2014 at the LDS Church located at 365 S. 900 E. in Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:30 am with services to follow at 11:00 am.
