Osvaldo Carbajal, age 90, of Provo, Utah, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017. He was born February 28, 1927, in Rosario, Argentina, to Felix Guillermo Carbajal and Josefa Martell.

Osvaldo migrated to the United States in search of a better life for his family in the early 1960’s. He and his wife Elena Rodriguez Carbajal worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their young family. His love of life, jovial demeanor, and wonderful talents of singing and dancing won him many friends who loved and stayed close to him to the end. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been converted in Cordoba, Argentina, in 1966 along with his immediate family members.

The simple mention of the name “Osvaldito” triggered in so many of his friends and family an instant smile.  He was always the center of attention, the “life of the party” and the inspiration for music, dance, and laughter, especially when his beloved Argentine Tango was invoked or requested. He lived a long and joyful life and was an inspiration to many.  His mantra could probably be encapsulated in the famous Argentine saying “Quien me quita lo bailado” (Who can take away what I have danced (lived or experienced)), an expression he quoted so many times.

Osvaldo is survived by his former wife Elena of Provo, Utah; both his children: Susana (Rick) Despain of Meridian, Idaho, and Ricardo (Julia) Carbajal of Provo, Utah; eight grandchildren: David (Patricia) Despain, Ryan (Summer) Despain, Cherie (Jonathan) Hoeger, Michelle (Christopher) Hoeger, Casey (Candice) Despain, Halen Carbajal, and Cortlan Carbajal; and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Chris Despain, as well as by his long time friend and lovely dancing companion Gladys Alard.

The family will be holding a celebration of life in his memory at a time and place to be arranged at a later date.

We very much appreciate the love and support received by friends and family as well as the loving care and constant help received by Brio Hospice during this difficult time.

A special debt of gratitude goes to his friend of over 30 years Alberto Carballo for the incredible loyalty, love, and devotion he gave Osvaldo during his final days; for the 24 hour-a-day personal care he rendered to him-- a gift that allowed Osvaldo to finish his life at home surrounded by his memories, his friends, his favorite drink: “mate”, and his music.

Condolences may be left for the family on this page.
