Myron Christensen

December 30, 1934 — March 15, 2022

Sandy, Utah

Myron Donald Christensen, age 87, passed away on March 15, 2022, in Sandy, Utah. Myron was born December 30, 1934 in Salt Lake City to Edward Marion Christensen and Marie Elizabeth Miller Christensen. He was the youngest of 11 children and was one of four twin sons in the family. Myron was raised in Garfield, Utah, and Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from Granite High School, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Korea. After two years of military service, he returned home and accepted a mission call to the Norway Oslo Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his mission and working with the Norwegian people. He was called as first counselor to the Mission President, in which he traveled the mission and trained missionaries throughout the mission. Myron enjoyed speaking Norwegian whenever the opportunity arose.

After he returned from his mission, his mother introduced him to Arlene Berrett, who was renting an apartment from them in their house in the avenues. They dated, fell in love, became engaged, and then married on August 5, 1959, in the LDS Idaho Falls temple. They moved to Provo, where Myron enrolled at Brigham Young University and earned his bachelor’s degree. By that time, their family had grown, with the addition of RaeAnne and Sherry. The four of them moved to Houston, where Myron graduated from the Hermann School of Physical Therapy. After a brief stint in Colorado, Myron found a position as a Physical Therapist at Utah Valley Hospital and moved back to Orem. Their family continued to grow with the additions of Blake, Steven, Robert, Jennifer, and Kelli. During that time he was hired as the Head Physical Therapist at Payson Hospital and set up the Physical Therapy department at Mountain View Hospital.

Myron held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but is probably best known for his work with the young men. He spent much of his time working with and counseling them and helped plan and execute river rafting and deep-sea fishing trips. He completed the BSA Wood Badge leadership training and then regularly trained others. He was awarded the Silver Beaver. His church service also included serving as a Bishop, a counselor for two stake presidents, and in a branch presidency at the Provo LDS Missionary Training Center.

Myron is known as a man of service, wisdom, and friendship. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories, and he had a wealth of them from his colorful life. He enjoyed woodworking and furniture-making, working on cars, traveling, and being with family.

Myron is survived by his wife Arlene and their children RaeAnne England (Dale) of Manson, Washington; Sherry Hancock (Larry) of Sandy, Utah; Blake Christensen (Tonya) of Lehi, Utah; Steven Christensen (Judy) of Orem, Utah; Robert Christensen (Lonna) of Spanish Fork, Utah; Jennifer Ford (James) of Mattawan, Michigan; and Kelli Gordon (Steven) of Muscatine, Iowa; 31 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and his twin brother Byron Christensen (Zelma) of Boise, Idaho.
