Myrna Dee Gardner Muhlestein passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2024, at the age of 83. She was born to Myron and Mildred (Earl) Gardner in October of 1940 in Ely, Nevada. Her family moved to Grand View Bench in Provo, Utah, when she was eight years old. In May of 1960, she married J. Keith Muhlestein. They lived in Provo and Springville before moving to Murray, Sandy, and then Lindon, where they spent the rest of their lives. She and Keith had seven children, six of whom survived birth.
Myrna spent several years driving a school bus for special needs children. After Keith’s retirement, they served two missions, one in Nauvoo, helping to open that temple, and one in Laie, Hawaii at the Temple Visitor’s Center. They also served a part-time mission at the Provo MTC, helping couple missionaries prepare for missions. They were ordinance workers in four temples. They had a great love for the temple.
During her youth, Myrna made several good friends who furthered her love for the Gospel. She took this zeal and infected her own family with it, helping to bring greater activity to many in her family as a result. She served in many positions in the Church and loved putting her whole heart into her callings.
Myrna was quick to love and to laugh. She was loyal and always anxious to help. She was known for looking for ways to help people and especially loved to do things for her grandchildren. She spent her life taking care of her family and animals with a fiery, nurturing heart. She delighted in gathering family and friends at her home, Lake Powell, their trailer in Nauvoo, or their small apartment in Laie. She suffered with dementia for the last few years of her life, but never lost her sense of humor and enjoyed teasing with her children and grandchildren to the very end.
Myrna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Ron, and one grandchild who died in childbirth (Alvin). She is survived by her brother Larry, her sister Debbie, and her six children Kathy (Don) Reed, Wes (Sarah) Muhlestein, Kerry (Julianne) Muhlestein, Tammy Call, Jeff (Erica) Muhlestein, Leon (Megan) Muhlestein, 23 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her viewing will be Sunday, June 9, from 5:30-7 pm, at Sundberg -Olpin Wheeler Mortuary at 496 S. State Street in Orem (84058).
The funeral will be Monday, June 10, at 2 pm, with a viewing starting at 12:30 pm, held in the chapel at 610 W. 100 S. Lindon, UT. Burial will take place at Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
