Merta Rae Sorensen Anderson Hansen, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the age of 85 in Logan, Utah. She was born on March 22, 1940, in Provo, Utah, to John Raymond Sorensen and Sallie Palmer Sorensen, who preceded her in death.

Merta’s journey through life was marked by love, commitment, and a deep connection to her family and community. In her early years, she married Keith L. Anderson on May 20, 1958, in Provo, Utah, embracing a life filled with shared dreams and cherished moments. Later, in May 2012, she married Jack Hansen, whose companionship brought her joy in the latter years of her life.

Throughout her life, Merta lived in various places, including Rapid City, South Dakota, Utah Valley, and Star Valley, Wyoming, where she created lasting memories and strong bonds with those around her. The warmth of her spirit touched many lives, and her loving nature resonated within her family and circle of friends.

She leaves behind a family that will forever cherish her memory, including her brother, John Sorensen (Jackie) of Lake Havasu, Arizona; her brother, Jerry Sorensen of Orem, Utah; sister-in-law, Janice Sorensen of Sandy, Utah; sister-in-law, LaFaye Pyne (Gary) of Provo, Utah; and sister-in-law, Sue Remkes (Pete) of Elk Ridge, Utah. She is also survived by her son, Brian Anderson (Rebecca) of Mansfield, Texas; her daughter, Raylene Huntsman of Orem, Utah; and her daughter, Brenda Leftwich (Steve) of Logan, Utah. Merta was also the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 46 great-grandchildren.

Merta’s passions included bowling, golfing, and camping with the Good Sam's Club, as well as spending precious moments with her loved ones. She was an avid BYU Cougar fan, and she was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, actively participating in her faith and community. Throughout her life, she cherished the memories made with friends over the years, and we rejoice in her marvelous reunion with Kathy Lynne and in her passing.
