Our kind and loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend Max Terry Pyne passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, due to complications from a heart attack. He was surrounded by his family when he passed.
Max was born on February 1, 1922, in Orem, Utah, to wonderful parents Ivern and Martha Pyne. He was the youngest son of seven children. Max and his siblings grew up on a farm where they all learned to work hard and help others. Max was a lifelong farmer and his real passion was to be outside with the trees and fruit. He continued to work on the farm with his son Terry until the time of his death. He especially enjoyed interacting with friends and neighbors as he sold fruit from his Orem fruit stand. Many people enjoyed the fruits of Max’s labor. Max also retired from Geneva Steel where he worked on the open hearth.
Max was part of the Greatest Generation and served his country during WWII for 3.5 years. He was trained as a medic and served in the Medical Corp of the Army, stationed in Alaska. He was attached to the military police battalion, which maintained all of the security for the armed forces around Anchorage. He came home from the war and married his sweetheart Beatrice Gappmayer in the Salt Lake Temple on November 6, 1946. They were married for 62 years until the time of Beatrice’s death and together they had five children. Max cared lovingly for Beatrice during a prolonged illness prior to her death.
Max was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, including as a member of the bishopric of the Lakeridge 4th Ward. He loved his fellowman and helped anyone he could see in need. He was a wonderful example of kindness and service. He was also an avid BYU sports fan, and on game day he could always be found in front of his TV.
Max is survived by one son and four daughters; Ann (Dennis) Spackman of Midvale, Utah; Terry (Sue) Pyne of Orem, Utah; Elsie (Wayne) Petty of West Jordan, Utah; Elizabeth (Mitch) Lloyd of Lindon, and Christine (Ryan) King of Draper, Utah; and by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 4775 North 300 West, Provo, Utah. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 6-8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, and on Wednesday, July 26th at 12-12:45 p.m. just prior to the services at the church.
