Mavis Garrard Worley, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2016, at her home in Provo Utah from age related illness. Mavis was born July 7, 1931, in Lake Point Utah, to Warren Joseph Garrard and Eva Shirley Garrard.
Mavis attended elementary and middle school in a one room schoolhouse in Lake Point, followed by high school at Wasatch Academy. She attended Utah State University where she majored in Home Economics and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She frequently stated that she used her education everyday thereafter raising her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. While at Utah State University she met her eternal companion, Samuel Rich Worley. They were married December 29, 1951. Upon Sam’s completion of his military service in Korea, they settled in Utah Valley where they began raising their family.
Mavis was known as Tim to her close friends and family. She thoroughly enjoyed golf, gardening and playing Bridge with life-long friends. She was passionate about serving others and spent a lifetime of service to her family, church and community. She was an endearing leader in various organizations in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved serving the Lord. She served a mission with her husband, and especially cherished their many years of temple service together.
Mavis is survived by her sister Jacque Tyler, husband Samuel R. Worley; children, Alice Worley
Hayes (Robert), John Clyde Worley, Susan Worley Satchwell (Tony), Jill Worley Carter (Jay) and Rachelle Worley Rowberry (Darrin); 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mavis is also survived by and beloved by many family members and close friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Edgemont 14th Ward Chapel, 4200 N Foothill Drive, Provo, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem and Saturday at the church 9:30 – 10:45 am before the services. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery. We appreciate the outpouring of love, support and service that has been given to our family at this time, especially from Encompass Home Health.
