Mary Adeline Mostert, age 87, of Provo, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016. She was born February 9, 1929 in Morrilton, Arkansas to Johannes Frederick Theobald Mostert and Lucy Kurtz Stallings. She married H.P. Grooms on August 24, 1946 in Hernando, Mississippi. Together they had six children.
Mary never stopped learning. Her passions included researching current events, and studying American History and Politics. Most recently she served as a precinct chair for the Utah Republican Party. In her professional life she was the first female licensed building contractor in NY state, wrote a weekly column for the Rochester Times Union, was the managing editor for the Reagan Monthly Monitor. She also authored several books including: Coming Home, A Hunger for Liberty Leads to the Declaration of Independence, and The Threat of Anarchy Leads to the Constitution of the United States. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as stake public affairs director, Sunday school secretary, and Sunday school teacher. She also served as a public affairs missionary from 1991-92 in the Africa Area Mission.
Mary is survived by her six children Gail (Stephen) Lyon of Plainsboro, NJ, Gay (Stephen Hardin) Grooms of St. Petersburg, FL, Gary (Annette) Grooms of St. Petersburg, FL, Dr. Guy (Grace) Grooms of Muskogee, OK, Gavin (Sharilyn) Grooms of Provo, UT and Gwen (Mike) Moore of Corinth, NY. She was the proud grandmother of 25 and great-grandmother of 22. She is also survived by her 3 older siblings: Roberta Soyers, Jack Mostert and Paul Mostert.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11AM in the Edgemont North Stake Center located at 345 East 4525 North, Provo, UT 84604. Friends and family may call at the church at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
