Mark Stoner

May 19, 1942 — June 9, 2015

Mark Russell Stoner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at home with his family by his side. A mighty oak has fallen and we express our deepest gratitude for the simple majesty of his life. Quite literally, his limbs have been tireless in blessing, sheltering, and comforting all within his reach. Mark was born May 19, 1942, the son of Harold Jay & Margaret Gunn Stoner in Rochester, New York. His roots were nourished by his parents' legacy of service to the LDS church in the Rochester/Palmyra area. He met Sharon Thomas at BYU and they were married on June 5, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple by Joseph Fielding Smith. They have raised six wonderful children: Darin (Jeri) Stoner, Tiffany (Michael) Drummond, Brock (Julie) Stoner, Brendan (Cheryl) Stoner, Ashley (Erik) Peterson, and Graydon (Kristy) Stoner. They enjoy 22 precious grandchildren: Jessica, Hannah, Michael, Lauren, Joseph, Matthew, Samantha, Andrew, McCall, Henry, Benjamin, Megan, William, Elizabeth, Ayden, Claire, Mary, Colton, Estelle, Adam, Maxwell, and Harry. He is also survived by his brother, Roy (LaDeane) and sister, Janice. He served an LDS mission in the Northwestern States and received a master's degree in Public Administration which led to a career in Human Resources. He loved people. His gift to see the good in others caused many to return his expressions of kindness and respect. He enjoyed a variety of activities-carpentry, sports, music, gardening, entertaining, and cooking-which provided great fulfillment to him and to those he served. He seemed to be able to fix everything with one exception being the cancer diagnosis which arrived so unexpectedly. He loved the Lord, his family, and the youth of the church. He served diligently as Young Men President, Bishop, and Stake High Councilor. A lifetime of service to his family, to his Church, and to every acquaintance continues to enrich the lives he touched. His family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice and nurse Babbette. Services will be held Friday, June 19th at 12:00 noon at the Orem Stake Center, 80 South 280 East, Orem with a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem and at the chapel on Friday 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Orem Cemetery.
