Marilyn Tuckett Clarke passed away surrounded by her family February 1, 2018. She was born June 19, 1937, to Eugene Tuckett and Madge Harris Tuckett in Brigham City, Utah. She was her parents’ pride and joy, raised as an only child since her brother, Darrell, died in infancy. She was very close to her cousins, considering them her siblings.
Marilyn grew up in American Fork, Utah, where she was a bright student, a beauty queen, and a talented musician—both on the piano and vocally. She attended BYU where she met the love of her life Jack Clarke. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 25, 1958. After they graduated, life took them to Ogden, Cedar City, and Salt Lake City. Utah, and Rexburg, Idaho, with many happy retirement years spent in Orem, Utah. She gave birth to seven children but mothered many. Because of her, the Clarke home was the gathering place for family, friends and neighbors.
She was industrious, hardworking, tenderhearted and especially cheerful. With her youngest two children in elementary school, Marilyn went back to college for a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She loved her time as a counselor at Madison High School and as the Dean of Women at Ricks College. Many looked to her as someone they could go to for sound counsel and as someone they could trust.
She was a woman of great faith. She was devoted to both her family and her religion. Much of her time was spent serving others on both sides of the veil. She endured her many health challenges with courage and hope. Her life was extended miraculously so she could raise her young children and for that, we are eternally blessed and grateful.
She is survived by her husband John A. (Jack) Clarke; children: Jennifer Sorensen, Kristen (Spencer) Kirk, Colette, Drew (Adrienne), James (Andrea) and Scott; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bryan and her son-in-law, Christian Sorensen.
Her family expresses deep gratitude to her many doctors, caregivers, neighbors and ward members.
