Marie Bird

Marie Averett Bird, 89, of Orem, Utah passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of July 4, 2023. Born May 19, 1934 in Springville, Utah to Elva Harmer and Norris Bert Averett. Married her high school sweetheart, William Parker Bird on January 18, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

As a child she enjoyed being outside and playing softball. She learned to knit and crochet and made several sweaters, ponchos, and shawls. She was also a quilter. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints she served in many callings. She served in Relief Society and for many years as a quilting or humanitarian leader making quilts for newly married couples and those in need. Hundreds of quilts have been tied or hand quilted in her home. She worked several jobs throughout her life and retired in 1996 from the Utah County Recorder’s Office. She always made time during her busy schedule to give service to others and to attend her children’s events and activities.

Marie is survived by her four children: Wm. Brad (Sharron) Bird of Ephraim, UT, Nanette Bird of Orem, UT, Sharon (Karlin) Stokes of Orem, UT, Jason (Jackie) Bird of Orem, UT; 11 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, her sister Helen Louise Bird and twin great granddaughters Lilly & Grace.

Marie’s children are grateful to all the good neighbors who have lovingly visited and comforted her the past few years. We are also grateful to Utah Home Health & Hospice and her nurse, Sarah Groneman, who has become an adopted daughter, for her loving care.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cascade 1st Ward LDS Chapel located at 481 East Center Street, Orem, UT. A viewing for friends and family will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Steet in Orem, and on Monday just prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Springville Cemetery.
