Lynn Bellows

Lynn Jay Bellows, 93, passed away May 22, 2017, in Orem, Utah.  He was born in Orem on March 30, 1924, to John Allen Bellows and Agnes Ferguson Bellows.  He was the fourth son in a family of five boys and three girls.  Lynn was raised on the family farm which, in his words, “had lots of work but very little cash income.  It was a struggle to survive due to drought and the depression”.

Lynn attended grade school at Sharon and Spencer Elementary schools.  He attended junior high and high school at Lincoln Junior and Lincoln High.  It was there that he met his eternal sweetheart Nadean Davis.  They were married on May 14, 1943, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Nadean passed away on May 8, 2014, just three days short of their 71st wedding anniversary.  Lynn frequently referred to meeting Nadean as “the best thing that ever happened to me”.

Lynn attended Utah State University until joining the army air corps in June of 1943.  While in the military, Lynn was initially stationed in North Dakota, California, and Arizona.  He received specialized training on the B-24 aircraft in Colorado, Texas, and Idaho.  After completion of his training, Lynn was stationed in Fort Worth, Texas.  Lynn loved flying, loved his country, spoke fondly about his military experience, and was proud of his service.

While still in the military, Lynn and Nadean began their family with two wonderful daughters.  Once the war ended and Lynn was discharged, he and Nadean moved to Orem, built a home, and had three additional (and beautiful) daughters.  Lynn loved his children and spoke with great fondness of his days as a young father.

Lynn worked at Geneva Steel for over 39 years, and was elected Editor of the U.S. Steel “News and Views”.  In this role, he and Nadean traveled throughout the country, meeting numerous dignitaries.  Lynn was active in politics, serving as a precinct chairman, a state delegate, and as Chairman of the Utah Steelworkers Political Action Committee.

Lynn loved being outdoors with his family.  Fishing and hunting adventures still live on in the amusing stories told and retold many times over.  He was an avid BYU sports fan.  Lynn loved the Lord.  As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he bore frequent testimony of the restored gospel.  He served in various church callings, including service as the ward clerk for 35 years.   Lynn enjoyed serving in the temple.  He and Nadean visited numerous temples across the country.  Lynn adored his family, appreciated a good card game, and loved a good joke.  Countless are the memories of grandpa sitting in his favorite chair, watching a ball game, and entertaining the grandkids with endless jokes and stories from his life.

Lynn is survived by his daughters: Mary (Darrell) Beardall, Linda (Randy) Olsen, Kris (Randy) Christensen and three sisters: Marian Adams, Elaine Black, and Janet Youd.  He leaves behind 26 loving grandchildren, 93 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Nadean, daughters Carolyn and JoAnn, and brothers Milton, Russell, Wayne, and Ray (died as an infant).

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Orem Fourth Ward LDS Meetinghouse located at 50 South 800 East in Orem.  Viewings will be held on Wednesday, May 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home located at 495 South State Street in Orem, and prior to the service, from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
