Lydia Christopherson

April 16, 1945 — June 22, 2023

American Fork, Utah

Lydia Christopherson, 78, of American Fork, Utah, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2023, in her daughter's home surrounded by family. She was born April 16, 1945, in Olancho, Honduras, to Antonio Romero Mendoza and Paula Gonzales. She married her first husband, Ralph Greenwood, on December 23, 1968, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.  After being alone for several years Lydia met her "Alancito" Alan J Christopherson and was married on October 23, 2010, who preceded her in death on August 9th, 2019.

As a young child, Lydia became a talented seamstress because she needed to help her single mother support their family.  She carried this trait and skills through most of her life, attending design school in Los Angeles, working for various fashion designers, clothing companies and at the end of her career owning her own business designing baby blessing, baptismal and temple dresses.

Lydia was a devout Mormon convert and served a mission for her church in Guatemala at the age of 17.  Following the completion of her mission, she was offered a unique opportunity, conducted by Brigham Young University, to assist in the translation of the Book of Mormon into Kaqchikel a Mayan dialect.  While in the United States, she met and later married Mr. Greenwood. They brought into this world 5 children: Ryan Greenwood (1971-1994), Bryan Greenwood, David Lee Greenwood (1975-1977), Rebekah Greenwood (Rasmussen) and Matthew Aaron Greenwood. She lived a full life with her family - a life rich in culture gained while living all over the world from the United States, Mexico City, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and visiting over 35 countries.  Lydia was known for her bold, feisty and, oh so fun, personality.  If you knew and loved Lydia, you admired her for the strength that 4'10", 102 lb woman had.

Lydia is survived by 3 of her children Bryan, Rebekah and Matthew and leaves behind 4 granddaughters, Ashley Byrnes, Alexis Byrnes, Scout Rasmussen, and Bryanna Greenwood.
