LuDean Bailey Alder, 89, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully from a serious illness on Friday, October 13, 2017.
LuDean was born to Luther Jones and Augusta Mortensen Bailey on March 17, 1928, in Logan, Utah, the youngest of four children, and has lived a full, active, and fruitful life. She married Zane Griffeth Alder in the Logan Utah Temple on June 2, 1948, and eventually became the mother of five children, 36 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including primary teacher, ward chorister, Relief Society inservice leader, visiting teaching coordinator, ward Relief Society president, and stake music coordinator. She also worked as a poll watcher during several election years in Orem, Utah, where she lived for 62 years in the same home.
She attended Utah State University for two years, where she sang the female leads in two operas, Il Trovatore and Madame Butterfly, and sang lesser roles in others. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang for 13 years with the Singing Mothers, a group of mothers who often sang in both the Assembly Hall and the Tabernacle on Temple Square and in the Logan and Provo Tabernacles, as well as in other music venues around the state of Utah. She also sang very often at church meetings and family gatherings. In addition, she loved to dance, and she has now been reunited with her eternal dance partner.
She is survived by four of her five children, Craig Zane of Orem, Utah; Mark Bailey (Marsha) of Sunset, Utah; Reed Bailey (Karin) of Lawton, Okalhoma; and Manon of Orem, Utah; along with 35 grandchildren; and all of her great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Zane, by her youngest son Keith Bailey and by her grandson Jason Gene Bushnell.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11 am in the Cherry Hill 6th Ward Chapel located at 1650 South 200 East, Orem, Utah. A viewing will take place on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 6 to 8 pm at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State, Orem, Utah, with a viewing for family and relatives held on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am, just prior to the funeral, at the church. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery located at 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.
