Louis Mccandless

Louis Keith McCandless passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2022 at the age of 94 at his home in Orem, Utah. Louis was born in American Fork, Utah on January 14, 1928 to his parents Duane and Tena Crookston McCandless. He was the 8th child and the baby of the family. His father passed away when he was 2 and he was raised by his Mom and Stepfather Ray Ovard. He met and fell in love with his sweetheart Jean Boley and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 12, 1950.

Jean proceeded him in death on August 5, 2013. They lived in Provo when they were first married then moved to Orem where they have lived in the same home since 1963. Louis worked at Geneva Steel and had many other jobs on the side. Carpentry was a main part of his work along with working at Rocky Mountain Helicopter. He enjoyed Hunting, fishing, camping he was a great outdoorsman. He also loved making Indian artifacts, birdhouses, painting, canes, along with many other crafts which his family have benefited from and enjoyed. He could make anything you would ask him to he was very creative, a master of all trades. He had a great sense of humor and could make you laugh with his many stories and adventures of his. He was the best Dad, grandpa and great-grandpa you could have ever imagined or asked for always supporting us all!

He also served our country and is a Veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by 2 Sons and 2 Daughters, Steven McCandless, Marilyn (Todd) Ripple, Tami (Rex) Hampton and Clint McCandless. 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Elaine Kopp and brother-in-law Ray Thomas and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, 4 sisters and 3 brothers, son-in-law Todd Ripple and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 20th at 11:00 am in the Orem 4th Ward Chapel 80 South 800 East Orem, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held from 9:30 -10:30 am prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
