Lois Mae McDonald Lewis, a long-time resident of the Provo area, died Wednesday, the 1st of June, 2016, in her home at 1755 Oak Lane, Provo, Utah, 84604.
Lois was born February 27, 1918 in Ogden, Utah, to Clinton Delmar McDonald (Father), and Emma Victoria Ipsen (Mother). She was married to Walter R. Lewis in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple on 12 June, 1940.
She received a Teaching Degree in the field of Homemaking, Sewing and Food Sciences. She taught in the Public Schools in Bakersfield, California and in the Van Nuys, California area. She received her Master's Degree related to Women's and Men's Tailoring and Pattern Making at UCLA in Los Angeles, California. She also taught Nutrition to family, friends, neighbors and many new acquaintances.
Lois taught "Nutrition for Nurses" in California. She was a Dietician for the Utah State Board of Education. She also taught Nutrition for the BYU Education Week classes in Southern California and Utah for a number of years.
Lois is known for her love of flowers and gardening. Some say she could grow anything. She loved to share her knowledge and her "cuttings" of plants, trees and flowers with her friends and family. She was the Floral Coordinator for the LDS Oak Hills 4th Ward in Provo, Utah for over 20 years. Her ward members at times stood and applauded her artistic and creative floral arrangements.
Lois was an avid, life-long researcher of Nutrition, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She enjoyed the Scriptures daily until the day she died. She shared her testimony through her Family History research, Temple and Missionary work. She believed that every Member of her Church were Missionaries to spread the Great News about Jesus Christ and the Plan of Happiness, through the lives we lead every day.
Lois loved and believed strongly in Family and the vital place it holds in our political and social structure. She gave birth to 13 children; and loved, served and extended a helping-hand, in many spiritual and material ways, to them all.
Lois is survived by her Sons and Daughters: Rick Lewis (Marilyn and 5 children) of Provo, Utah; Patricia Lewis Rusche (Ronald and 12 children) of Provo, Utah; Nancy Lewis Larsen (Jay and 5 children) of Logan, Utah; Anne Lewis Hammond (2 children) of Bountiful, Utah; Donald Lewis (8 children) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Bill Lewis (Terry and 5 children) of Chula Vista, California; Bonnie Lewis Pigg (Charlie and 1 child) of Canada; Tom Lewis (Patty and 1 child) of Dana Point, California; Michael Lewis (Andrea and 3 children) of Agoura Hills, California; and Joseph Lewis (Linda and 4 children) of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by Walter R. Lewis (Beloved Father to her 13 children), Walter Jr. Lewis (Son), Samuel Lewis (Son), and Sharon Lewis (Daughter).
A Memorial Service at the Oak Hills 4th Ward Chapel, located at 925 East North Temple Drive, Provo, will be held for Lois, Friday, June 10th, 2016, at 11am. A Visiting Hour for Family and Friends will start at 10am in the Relief Society Room. Graveside and burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery following the Memorial.
