Lois Nelson Hatch, 90, passed away on December 18, 2016 in Orem, Utah. She was the second child of eleven children born to Andrew and Wilhelmina Nelson in the small farming community of Burton, Idaho. She was born on February 26, 1926, in a log house surrounded by an orchard and flowers of every kind.
Lois achieved unique accomplishments in her life. She made her dream of flying airplanes come true in high school and obtained her private pilot's license in the spring of 1945. Loved flying since her very first ride, one of the first women to solo from the Rexburg municipal airport.
She graduated from BYU in June 1949 with a degree in geology/chemistry. She was offered a job as the head of geology at Ricks College but turned down a career to raise her family.
She met Don Hatch just after graduation and they were married on August 10, 1949 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Don and Lois moved to Orem, Utah where they built a home and raised their 10 children. Lois was an active member of the LDS church and had various callings but held the position of Sr. Primary coordinator for twenty-five years. Always faithful, loyal and true to her beliefs and a beautiful example to her family. She loved her children unconditionally.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Don Hatch. The couple had 67 wonderful years together. She is also survived by seven of her nine children, four of her eleven siblings. Her children are: Dee Ann Keller, JP Hatch, Kaylin Conant, Karla (Clyde) Robins, Laren Rand Hatch (deceased), Jace Nathen Hatch, Deven Earl Hatch (deceased), Lloyd Jay Hatch (deceased), Rachel Janae (Terry) Degmetich and Erin Maria Leishman. Also by her 26 grandchildren 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 12:00 noon at the LDS Chapel at, 665 South 200 West, Orem, Utah. There will be a viewing before the funeral on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to visit on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, UT 84058. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
