Lela Hawkins

Lela Fay Cook Hawkins, age 91 was reunited with her husband, parents and siblings on Christmas day Dec. 25,2021.

Fay was born on Dec. 16, 1930, in Tridell, UT. Her parents were Robert Lynn Cook and Roselee Terry. She was the youngest of 9 children.

While attending BYU, she met George Elmer Hawkins and on June 6, 1952, they were married in the Salt Lake temple.

Fay moved many times as her husband served in the Air Force for 21 yrs. She served in many callings in the wards and branches that they lived in. After her husband retired from the Air Force and as an Ind. Engineer for Libby Glass, they served a mission in the Saint Louis Missouri mission. After their missionary service, they sold their home in Louisiana and built their dream home in Orem, UT.

Fay was the mother of nine children which kept her busy. She had a great love for family and God. She was a great example of love and patience. She found time to garden, can, sew, and decorate cakes.

Fay is survived by her nine children: Terrry (Rosemary) Hawkins, Shauna Hardy, Glenn (Carol) Hawkins, Heidi (Brian) Casswell, Juanita (Dan) Hammer, Renae (Darryl) Bell, Lee (Rhonda) Hawkins, Joseph (Kim) Hawkins, James (Jennilynn) Hawkins, 34 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Jan 14, 2021, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary chapel located at 495 S State St, Orem, UT. Viewings will be held for friends and family from 6-8 pm Thurs, Jan 13 at the mortuary and from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services on Friday. Burial will be at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park.
