LeIla Ogden

LeIla Ogden (91) of Orem, Utah, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024— four days short of her 92nd birthday. She was born June 1, 1932, to Morris DeVon Ogden and Geneal Nielson.  She spent her youth in Richfield and attended schools there.   She graduated from Richfield High School before going on to BYU.  She was an accomplished musician (piano) and artist.  She spent many hours helping on the farm doing whatever needed to be done.   As the oldest child in her family, she was a wonderful example for her two brothers.

 

LeIla earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Brigham Young University and spent most of her career teaching physical education, coaching, advising the drill team and cheerleading squad at Lincoln High School and Orem High School. She finished her career working with special needs students at the Peterson School in American Fork. After retiring she volunteered as a score and stats keeper at BYU.   She was inducted into the Utah State Sports Hall of Fame.  A personal highlight was carrying the Olympic torch during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

 

She loved the outdoors, camping, bird watching, gardening, and traveling. Her gift as an artist often displayed her admiration for nature and animals in her beautiful paintings.  She was also passionate about helping those who needed any kind assistance.

 

LeIla was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous callings including stake sports director, girls camp, working in the Relief Society and at the Missionary Training Center.

 

LeIla is survived by her two brothers: DeVon Ogden of Alpine, Utah, and MacNiel  (Rhonda) Ogden of St. George, Utah; seven nieces and nephews Lynette (Cordell) Gomm of Mansfield, Texas; Joseph Ogden of Highland, Utah, John (Amy) Ogden of Alpine, Utah; Ryan (Rochele) Ogden of Sanford, Florida, Rhett (Jolene) Ogden of Lehi, Utah, Randy (Alena) Ogden, of Washington, Utah, and Misty (David) Blazzard, of Peoa, Utah, She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Eileen L. Ogden and niece Suzanne Ogden.

 

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the Lakeview 8th Ward located at 155 West 1600 South, Orem, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow the service at the Richfield City Cemetery.
