Laura Louise Wirthlin

June 19, 1937 — September 2, 2024

Laura Louise Mills Wirthlin, 87, of the greater Dallas, Texas area, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2024. She was 87 years old. She joins her beloved husband, Ralph Joseph Wirthlin, of 63 years, who preceded her in death on December 2, 2008, and her daughter, Emily Laural Wirthlin Byrd, who preceded her in death on February 14, 2011.

Laura was born on June 19, 1937, in Nephi, Utah, to Ray Calvin Mills and Gertrude Beatrice Edwards. She was the eldest of ten children and had many interests in music and the arts. She had a beautiful soprano voice from an early age, winning a “Newsette Medal” at age 14. She shared her musical talents in the many choirs she was a part of throughout her life. Her artistic talents were not limited to music; she was a sketcher, a painter, and a worker with ceramics and needlepoint. Her love of the arts was a special trait she would pass down to her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Laura married Ralph Joseph Wirthlin on April 28th, 1961, in the Logan, Utah temple. She was a mother of six children and a friend to many. Her love was unconditional, and she always encouraged others to be peacemakers, seek common ground, and show empathy to those we interacted with, no matter their station in life. She will be remembered as a strong woman who loved the Lord and passed that faith and knowledge to rising generations.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Laura's love and devotion to her family was her greatest mission during her time on earth. Her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her Heavenly Father was unwavering, and she shared that belief with many she met along the way. Her love and dedication to temple work were beyond measure, and she ensured she attended as often as possible to do the Lord’s work.

Laura is survived by her five children—Ralph Wirthlin, Alvin Wirthlin, Emma Gonsalves, Anna Eagar, and Julieanne Hanson—and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her seven siblings also survive her: Calvin, Larry, Leonard, Barbara, Gordon, Terry, and Steven. She was preceded in death by her sisters Janet and Betty.
