Larry Remund Schlappi 83, of Orem, passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2024.
He was born April 26, 1941, in Logan to Lloyd Keith and Carol Remund Schlappi. Larry spent his childhood days in Delta, then moved to Fillmore to start high school, where he met Patricia Palmer. After high school, they were married in the Manti Temple on September 10, 1960.
Larry excelled in athletics. He attended BYU on a full-ride track scholarship. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Counseling.
His first job was teaching math and PE at Richfield High School. He was also the head basketball coach, track, and cross country coach and won several championships.
After five years at Richfield High School, he moved his family to Orem where he started his own financial planning business.
Larry loved to play and coach basketball. One of Larry’s greatest accomplishments was to be a player/coach of the Orem 20th ward team. They won the last All-Church Basketball Tournament in 1971. He served in many callings in the Lakeridge 5th Ward.
He loved spending time with family, supporting his seven children in their activities, hunting and fishing, and spending time outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; his children Scott (Becky), Mike (Tami), Julie (Brad Snell), Colette (Troy Worthington), Jennifer (Jeff Easton), Todd (Dee Dee), Tyler (Tilly); and a posterity numbering over 125. He is also survived by his brothers Kent (Shannon) and Roger (Alane). He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carolyn Mangelson, and granddaughter, Tara Bodrero.
An evening viewing will be held for family and friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Wheeler-Sundberg Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, located at 950 South 50 East in Orem, with a viewing held that morning at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m prior to the service. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery 1520 North 800 East Orem.
