Larry Richard Hamm, 63, of Orem, Utah, passed away on October 2, 2019. Larry was born in Calexico, California on August 13, 1956 to Jack and Cora Hamm.
Larry graduated from Calexico High School in 1974. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a Spanish-speaking mission for the church in Concepción, Chile mission from 1976-1978.
Larry was married and sealed to Helen Dowden in the Los Angeles, California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on July 20, 1979.
Larry joined the United States Border Patrol in 1983 and moved to Yuma, AZ where he was a U.S. Border Patrol Agent. He graduated from San Diego State University-Calexico Campus in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish with a minor in Mexican History. While Larry did not have a chance to be a Boy Scout himself, he became involved in Scouting while his son was a Boy Scout.
From 1997 until 2015 Larry kept himself busy with the scouts camping, helping them fundraise, teaching merit badge clinics and volunteering at the Scout Office in the Goldsmith Building. Larry retired from federal law enforcement service in 2006 as an ICE Special Agent in Yuma, AZ. Temple work was very important to Larry and he enjoyed being a Temple Worker in the Mesa, Arizona and the San Diego, California temples.
Larry moved to St. George, Utah in 2015 and was a Temple Worker at the St. George Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from May 2015 until October 2017.
Larry is survived by his daughter Melissa Hamm of Yuma, Arizona and son Andrew Hamm (April) of Saratoga Springs, Utah; his five grandchildren; his siblings: Janice Bowman (Donald) of Savannah, GA; Elisabeth Kircher (Ed) of Phoenix, AZ; Erika McElveen (John) of Snellville, GA; Jack Hamm (Pati) of Lodi, CA; his twin brother, Jerry Hamm (Marianne) of Visalia, CA and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jack and Cora Hamm; his siblings: Rosemary Hamm, Bobbie Domenico, and Peggy Hamm.
Services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street Orem, Utah 84058. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the mortuary.
