She was the second child of Isaac Samuel and Elmina Anna Allen. She met Grant Mace and six weeks later, on December 17, 1948, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with four children: Shawn, Jaralee, Lanna and Rourke. LaReal loved being surrounded by people. Her greatest treasures were her close circles of family and friends. She made lifelong friends out of any acquaintance she made. LaReal worked for many years as a secretary in the public education and mental health fields. Hard work was her mantra. She was heavily involved with the Utah Developmental Center in American Fork where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was a prominent advocate for the rights of the handicapped, including her son Shawn, and was a forceful presence at many sessions of the Utah State Legislature. Her influence also extended to activities for the residents of the Developmental Center and their families, such as the annual parade and Christmas parties. LaReal had a quick wit and enjoyed laughing with others. She met life's adversities with humor, rhymes and turns of a phrase that lifted everyone's spirits. She loved her country and flew the flag every day. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and took great joy in her garden. LaReal was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings in the Church and loved the temple. LaReal is survived by her children Shawn, Lanna (Stan) Page and Rourke (Kathryn) Mace, 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and by her sisters Delma Link, Nelda (Karl) Norman, and Merle Kortwright.
