The worlds greatest Grandpa, Kenneth Dee Cahoon passed away on Sunday Jan 4th after a valiant battle with diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. He was 73. His wish to die on the golf course wasn't granted, in-spite of several close calls, but he was grateful to be surrounded by his dear wife and other loving family members at the time of his passing. Ken was born February 12, 1941 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and was raised in beautiful Cardston, Alberta. He met his sweetheart-wife while in the 7th grade. They were married for time and all eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple three weeks after Ken returned from his mission to Kentucky. One of the highlights of their married life was the time they spent serving a mission together in Bakersfield, California. Ken was a great athlete. He played basketball at University of Alberta and was a coach and a teacher for most of his adult life until he moved his family to Utah in 1979. He and Joan started and successfully operated a retail fabric business in West Jordan, Utah for 30 years. Ken was a devoted golfer and his passion for the game took him to golf courses around the world. He loved his association with the "Over the Hill Gang" at East Bay Golf Course. Kens greatest joy came as he cheered on his 5 children, 14 Grandchildren & 5 Great Grandchildren in whatever endeavors they pursued. His unapologetic biased support and enthusiastic cheers at games and performances are treasured sounds that will ring forever in the memories of those he loved. He left a lasting legacy of faith, integrity, hard work, commitment and persistence. He lived true to his testimony of the restored gospel until the very end and served faithfully in several callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. He loved the time he spent as Bishop of the BYU 54th Ward and as a counselor for many years in the Orem YSA 20th Ward. He is survived by his faithful wife of 51 years, Carol Joan Redford; his five children Lisa (John) Conrad, Kristy (Daniel) Sego, Gregory (Linda) Cahoon, Benjamin (Kimberli) Cahoon and Cameron Cahoon, and his four siblings, Louise (Bryce) Jensen, Linda (Merlin) Olsen, Dale (Ann) Cahoon and Drew (Joanne) Cahoon. He is preceded in death by his parents DeRaunze A. Cahoon and Wanda Gibb; as well as his older sister Carol. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 10:00 AM at the Lakeview Stake Center in Orem Utah. Dad's wish is that the service will be finished in sixty minutes or less. A viewing will be held for family and friends at the Lakeview Stake Center prior to the funeral from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM as well as on Friday evening January 9, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, in Orem. We wish to thank all of the wonderful Doctors, nurses and caregivers who have helped our Dad over the past several years.
