Kay Lafollette

June 3, 1937 — December 21, 2015

Kay Mortensen LaFollette was born June 3, 1937, in Lovell, Wyoming, the fourth of five daughters of Lucille Olsen and Horace Meeks Mortensen. She attended school in Lovell and graduated from Lovell High School with the class of 1955. She was selected to be the Drum Major for the marching band, chose to be the Betty Crocker Home Maker of Tomorrow and played on the varsity basketball team. She attended Northwest Community College in nearby Powell, Wyoming. She met the love of her life, Leroy Cutis LaFollette of Powell, Wyoming, and was married on December 30, 1955, in Lovell, WY. She was blessed with a son and two daughters. Leroy finished his Associate degree in 1957 and they moved to Gunnison, Colorado, where he attended Western State College of Colorado and graduated in 1959. They moved to Billings, Montana, to begin a career with Chevron Oil Company with would last 34 years. They lived in Billings, MT; Rangely, CO; Casper, WY; Denver, CO; Brussels, Belgium and Concord, CA. Kay was employed in several retail sales positions as various times but mostly was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held callings in Primary, Young Women, Sunday School and Relief Society organizations as well as Ward Librarian, Chorister and Cub Scout Den Mother. As a seamstress she made many clothes for the family, quilts for all of her children and thirteen grandchildren, as well as decorative wall hangings and table cloths. She is survived by her husband, Leroy; a son, Rodney of South Jordan, UT; and daughters Linda Consoliver of Sequim, WA and Sheryl Kohler of Lehi, UT; grandchildren Michael LaFollette of Conroe, TX; Tara Spenver, of Sykesville, MD; Camille Barlow of Provo, UT; Joseph and Jonathan LaFollette of South Jordan, UT; Heather, Christopher and Trevor Consoliver of Sequim, WA; Jennifer Campbell of White Hills, AZ; Jeffrey Kohler of American Fork, UT; Bradley Kohler of Saratoga Springs, UT; and Kimberley Schoepke and Susan Lund of Lehi, UT; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Madge May Hampton of Lovell, WT, Ruth Hauck of Riverton, WY and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by sisters, Miriam Krushinski of Oceanside, CA, Rena Fuller of Cowley, WY, and parents Horace and Lucille Olson Mortensen. A memorial service will be held at the East Bench LDS Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1631 East 900 North in Lehi, UT. Viewings will be Tuesday, December 22, at 6:30-8:00 PM and Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 9:30- 10:30 AM and memorial service following at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Lehi City Cemetery.
