Kay Baker

April 24, 1930 — October 2, 2017

Kay Lewis Baker, cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home in Provo, Utah, on October 2, 2017, at the age of 87. Kay was born April 24, 1930, in Annis, Idaho, to Harold Ray Baker and Mary Donnetta Lewis Baker. He married Carol Genevieve Hansen in the Manti Utah Temple on September 17, 1952.

Growing up, Kay lived in Paris, Idaho; Ely, Nevada; Provo, Utah; and Orem, Utah. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem in 1948 where he had played on the football, basketball, and tennis teams. He also sang in the High School choir and played clarinet and bass saxophone in the band. He served as an LDS missionary in the Texas-Louisiana Mission from 1950 to 1952. After graduation from BYU with a Masters Degree in Physics, he literally worked as a rocket scientist, as well as engineered advancements in infrared communications and lasers for various companies in Utah, New Mexico, and California. Kay will be most remembered for his dedication to his wife and children, his selfless service in the LDS church, and his unwavering faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Kay is survived by his wife Carol; brother Merlin Baker; sister Coleen (Dick) Carter; and 6 children: Carl (Kathy) Baker, Kathy (Greg) Lee, Karen (Gary) Sumner, Craig Baker, Kelly Baker, and Ken (Denise) Baker. Kay was always proud of his 25 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017, at 11 am in the Edgewood Ward Chapel located at 3511 North 180 East, Provo, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah, and Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
