Kathleen (Kathy) Cook Stahmann, 77, of Orem, Utah passed away September 27, 2021 at her home. She passed away peacefully with family at her side. Kathy lived a full life surrounded by many dear friends and close family.
Kathy was born on September 14, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Shirley Reynolds Cook and Kirma Read and was the fourth of five children - three brothers and one older sister with whom she had an extremely close relationship and whom she deeply loved.
Kathy attended Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, and after graduation attended the University of Utah where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated with a degree in education. While at the University of Utah, Kathy met her future husband, Robert Stahmann who was also attending the University of Utah, pursuing graduate studies in Educational Psychology.
Kathy and Robert were married in the Logan Latter-day Saint Temple in December 1965. After Robert earned his PhD at the University of Utah in 1967 they moved to Iowa City where he was in the faculty at the University of Iowa. Kathy made many lifelong friends while in Iowa City and was active in many callings within the Church there. While in Iowa Kathy and Robert had three sons - Ben, John, and Paul.
In 1975, when Robert joined the faculty at BYU, they moved to Orem, Utah, where they have called home for the last 46 years, enjoying her association with many dear friends and her activity in her many church callings. Their last two children, Mark and Anne, were born in Utah.
Kathy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1992. She fought through the effects of this disease for the rest of her life and was blessed to have access to medications that helped with some of the crippling effects of her disease. She was determined to not be stricken to a wheelchair and achieved her goal walking herself to bed on her last night on this earth.
She was a strong influence and was proud to have helped her four boys all earn their Eagle Scout awards as well as prepare her four sons to serve full-time missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Kathy enjoyed quilting and cross-stitch and created many beautiful quilts and embroidery over the years that are treasured by those who received them. She had many dear friends throughout her life and she treasured those relationships dearly.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Robert; her children Ben (Debbie) Stahmann, John (Carol) Stahmann, Paul (Emily) Stahmann, Mark (Tatiana) Stahmann, and Anne Stahmann; her sister Carole (Sam) Cowley, and her nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brothers (Kenneth Cook, Steven Cook, and John Cook)
