Judie was born December 30, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska and departed this life unexpectedly due to a stroke on November 20, 2014 in Provo, Utah. As a young child she moved to El Sereno, CA with her mother and grandparents, Ira and Lucille O'Leary McDermott and their 5 children. At age 9 she moved with her mother Mary Elizabeth (Betty) and her stepfather Robert (Bob) Leslie Halter to the Mojave Desert where Bob worked as a relief section foreman on the railroad. Judie loved the desert even though there was no running water or electricity. After graduating at the top of her 8th grade class (of 8 girls) and receiving the Valley Forge Freedom Foundation medal, she moved to Las Vegas to attend high school. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1959. It was at this time she developed deep and lasting friendships that greatly influenced her life and introduced her to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. At the age of 17 she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduation she followed her friends to Brigham Young University where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. There she met her future husband Ronald Calvin Jones. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 29th, 1964. Soon thereafter they moved to the Los Angeles area where Ron attended medical school. She taught 2nd grade at Lorena Elementary in East L.A. before moving to Orange County (Santa Ana/Tustin area) where Ron practiced Pediatrics and they raised their 6 daughters. In 1983 the family moved to Orem, Utah where their daughters attended school and eventually graduated from BYU and Utah State. She was known for her quick wit, humor, and generous heart. She welcomed into her heart and home Mike, Matt, Angie, Sybila, and others. She was a wonderful storyteller. Her joy was her family and friends. She enjoyed working with Ron in the office for the past 7 years. She was active in her church where as served as a Young Woman leader, Relief Society president, Relief Society counselor, teacher, and other callings including most recently as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple for the last 5 years. She will be greatly missed by many who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband and 6 daughters Patricia (Jeff) Tripp of Orem, Pamela (Jesse) Beacom of Park City, Nancy (Chris) Cattani of Queen Creek, AZ, Amy (Scott) Glenn of Orem, Janice (Morris) Oswald of Gilbert, AZ, Molly Jones of Orem, 19 grandchildren, Aunts Bonnie and Monica, and Uncle Tim of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. There will be a viewing at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary on Sunday, November 23rd form 6-8pm. The funeral will be Monday, November 24th at 1:00pm at the Sunset Heights Stake center in Orem (1260 S 400 W) with a viewing before beginning at 11:45.
