Joyce White

Joyce Blackhurst White age 89 of Orem, Utah passed away February 10, 2022.  She was born July 20, 1932, in Salt Lake City, to Edwin William Blackhurst and Esther Huhl Blackhurst.  She is preceded in death by her three siblings Robert and David Blackhurst, and Joan Blackhurst Spencer.  She married Stanford Rees Bohne in 1952, later divorced.  She married Leland Darrell White in 1979.

Joyce graduated from San Jose State College in San Jose, California, after spending three years at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City Utah.  She taught elementary and middle school in California and Utah.  She also taught children and adults in Guatemala, India, and Holland.  She accompanied her husband Lee to a Southeast Asia mission, and taught ESL (English as a Second Language) in Thailand and Cambodia.  She and her husband resumed their missionary service and taught ESL again in the Orem, Utah Mission.  Joyce also certified to sell insurance, real estate and multi-level marketing in between school teaching.  She also was an accomplished motivational speaker for corporate America.

Joyce was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, and served in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Seminary, and also served in the Provo and Timpanogos temples.  She met often with her University of Utah friends and was also a member of DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers).

Joyce is survived by her husband Leland (Lee) Darrell White and her five children Sheryl Bohne DeGering, Doug Bohne, Gayle Bohne Myler, Jolyn Bohne Mitchell, LeAnn Bohne Gutierrez, and her bonus daughters Vicki White Le Beau, Jan White Johnson, Becca White Pauly. Joyce and Lee together have 31 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

There will be a viewing Friday, February 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, February 19th from 9:30-10:30 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward building at 114 South 400 West, Orem, UT 84058-5327. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 19th at 11:00 am at the same building as the viewings.
