Joy Neilsen

November 15, 1948 — November 1, 2015

Joy Laurene Summers Neilsen Born in SLC to William and Ruby Summers, Joy was the fifth of six children. The family lived in Salt Lake, Draper and Mona. Joy completed high school at Juab High in Nephi and a year later married Russell E. Neilsen on Nov 15, 1948 in the Manti Temple. They made their first home in Mona where they welcomed three children. They moved to Murray in 1961, welcomed one more son, then moved to Orem in 1970 where Joy has resided for the last 45 years. Joy loved a family party, cooking, her garden, painting and quilting. She served in many church positions and was always ready to help out a neighbor, friend or family member. She treasured books, singing with a quartet of friends, working in the temple and her grandchildren. She is survived by her four children: Cheryl (Robert) Erickson, Joel (Annette) Neilsen, Marc (Deborah) Neilsen, and Robert Neilsen. She will be missed by her 14 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her everlasting love, Russell, in 1992; one grandson (Matthew) and all her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday Nov.7, AT 10:00 AM at 933 N 300 E, Orem. Family and friends may call at the church from 9 to 10 AM prior to services. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Joy may make donations to the Perpetual Education Fund in lieu of flowers. The family would like to thank the RS Angels from the Mt. Timpanogos 1st Ward, Orem Beehive House, Our House and Nate M. from Envision Hospice for the kind and loving care given to Joy over her last few years.
